Elsa Bals

I am Elsa Bals and I was born in Doetinchem on 24 June 1997. As a little girl there was one thing that I really wanted to do and that was dance. At the age of five I started dancing.  I do not  know the reason  why I wanted to dance, but I think it was a performance on  TV by The National Ballet. From that moment on, I was hooked.

When I was five years old I started with ballet at Ballet school Marianne Vermeul. It is a place where I feel safe and very much at home. When I was 12 years old I auditioned for “Het Koninklijk Conservatorium” in The Hague. Unfortunately I failed, but it was okay.

When I was in my last year of secondary school I had to look for a new study.  “Aventus Dans” in Zutphen caught me eye. After I had failed for ‘Het Koninklijk Conservatorium” I decided that dance was done. I was only going to do it for fun, but after 3 weeks of training at “Aventus Dans”, I knew I  would go on.

 

Dancing is a part of my life. When I am off, I want go back to school, because then I can dance again.

In the weekends it is the same story. I work and dance at the same time, standing still is not an option. I prefer Classic ballet, which is  also the style I  have danced for a long time. A style that demands a lot from the body, but it is also very graceful and it looks light, which makes it very beautiful. At Aventus we also get  Jazz and Modern dance. I begin to understand these  styles more and more. Especially modern  dance appeals  to me very much, because it is very much the opposite of classical. In Modern dance different layers, releasing and repackaging are the key elements.  In jazz it is all about presentation and popping. We also get  training in Urban, Improvisation and international dance. They all appeal to me very much, because we  get  to learn many different subjects and we also have the opportunity to develop ourselves in many different styles. Nevertheless, all this is demanding both physically and mentally.   

Currently I am in  me second year  at  Aventus dance training. In September I will  start in my third  and final year. I do not know yet what I want to do after that. There are many options.  
For now my goal is to finish my training at Aventus Dans.
